In this quiet coastal village some major scientific
advances were made over the years which have not been well publicized.
During the eighteenth century Benjamin Jesty developed the Small Pox vaccine
here - reputedly before Edward Jenner. While during the 1940's The T.R.E.
Station at St. Alban's Head was instrumental in the development of centimetric
radar. Many famous scientists were envolved including Sir Watson Watt and
Sir Bernard Lovell.
