This panoramic shot shows the view from the Mara Serena Game Lodge overlooking the Masai Mara Game Reserve. This famous wild life reserve is the northern extension of the Serengeti Plains of Tanzania, and is one of the greatest wildlife theatres on Earth. The annual widebeest migration across the Mara river (seen in the distance) takes place annually during July to October. (Scroll right to take in the whole panorama).

Lions and cheetah are fairly common and can generally be seen on each game drive.

If it were not for the grazing elephants, this
whole savannah plain would be over-run with trees and scrub.
The 12 month drought had recently broken and
the ground was now saturated. The plains were green and lush
food was plentiful at last and we saw many
herds of grazelle, buffalo, eland, giraffe, topi.

We had four safaris at dawn and dusk, and saw
all the "Big Five" including this rhino who is currently the only
rhino resident to the Mara, and lives with
a herd of buffalo.

With humidity at 100 percent and temperature
at 40 deg C, you didn't venture too far from the pool.
We stayed at the Serena Beach Hotel and had
a chance to scuba dive on the coral reef.
